At first glance this might look like a Humming Bird, but it is actually a Sphinx Moth. It is among only 4 nectar-feeding creatures that have hovering capability. Fallstreak holes, caused when super-cooled water droplets (water below freezing but still liquid) in the cloud are disturbed, often by an aircraft or other particulate, causing them to freeze and fall out, creating a clearing.
